Snowblower Gearbox
Snowblower Gearbox
Course Project for: MCG3131 Machine Design
Team Members: Zainab Badawi, Dalia Lteif, Naveen Singh
Supervised by: Dr. Ahsan Ahmed
Project Dates: March 2020 - April 2020
The Project
For this project, we were tasked with reducing 5 HP at 700 rpm to 60rpm with perpendicular shafts that are not coincident. Part of the project was to find an application for the gearbox, leading to the team choosing to design the gearbox for a snowblower, this added a few extra constraints and considerations for the design process.
My Contribution
My primary contribution to this project was to design a calculator that would size the shafts based on the forces applied to them by the gears, bearings and snowblower blades.
Project Outcome
Through the course of the project, I learned many of the design skills I would use in later courses, such as capstone. The project had us considering the failure methods of many common parts in designs as well as how to design around them and properly size parts for the application.
