Personal Project
Project Dates: July 2019
The Project
While taking ELG2336 we were given a preview of a project for a course we would be taking in the fall, ELG3336. The project was to design and build a drone to compete in the SAE Aero Design Micro Class. The best project team in the class would be sponsored by the University to compete. As I was already interested in drones, I took some time in the summer months to learn about plane and drone design to get a head start on my class mates, which ultimately resulted in this project. In short, I just wanted to build a drone.
The Design
It was never originally my intention to build the drone, I went into this project blindly, with very little in terms of planning. I had ordered potential parts I would use for the ELG3336 project and decided to have some fun one week, I cobbled together some scrap material we had around the house and shoddily put them together. The overall build quality reflects the lack of time and resources, but the goal was to have fun.
The Results
I think the video below demonstrates the outcomes of this project nicely. Skip to 1:47 for the highlight.
So, ultimately, it ended in failure, but it was still a success, I had fun and learned a bit about drone design.
